Razorbacks' Rocket Sanders Makes ESPN List of Top Running Backs

After big year it's a sign of some pre-season recognition before summer starts

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Lost in all of the buzz around the NFL Draft last week, recruiting news and everything else there was an interesting Arkansas football story I missed. It was intriguing because ESPN's college football folks had an 11-person group vote on top 10 running backs across all of college football.

And Raheim "Rocket" Sanders made the list at No. 3. In all fairness, I am old and there was an awful lot going on last week with four baseball games in five days at Baum-Walker Stadium.

But that is some recognition for the Razorbacks leading rusher that kind slipped a little below the main spotlight last season. He basically grabbed the job after Dominique Johnson injured his knee in the Outback Bowl after the 2021 season and hasn't come close to giving it up since.

Here's what Alex Scarbrough at ESPN.com said about Sanders:

How do you fly under the radar with a nickname like Rocket? But that's exactly what happened with Sanders last season thanks to Arkansas' subpar 7-6 finish. The offense as a whole struggled, due in large part to quarterback KJ Jeffersonbattling injuries. But Sanders more than held up his end of the bargain, ranking second in the SEC in rushing yards (1,443) and third in rushing touchdowns (10). A healthy Jefferson could make a speedy Sanders even better, and the two could form one of the best QB-RB rushing duos in the SEC.

The only other SEC team that had a running back make this Top 10 projection was Quinshon Judkins at Ole Miss, who was picked as the second-best running back in the country behind Michigan's Blake Corum.
