Razorbacks Add Productive Defender to Secondary

Relationship with transfer, better defensive backfield, helpful getting commitment

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — The turnaround of the Arkansas secondary last year is a big reason why the Razorbacks were able to steal transfer defensive back Marquise Robinson out of South Alabama.

Robinson is considered one of the more underrated transfers in the portal. The 6-2, 185-pound cornerback played the previous two seasons with the Jaguars after starting his career in the junior college ranks. He played in all 13 games in 2023, proving to be a ballhawk at his position. He recorded 36 tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss, six pass break-ups and three interceptions.

"The staff is fired up and ready to get things rolling in Fayetteville," Robinson said. "I feel that’s a great demeanor from the staff."

According to his social media activity, Robinson is good friends with Arkansas wide receiver signee Jordan Anthony. That relationship is another possible reason for him committing to the Razorbacks.

Robinson had several major offers for his services but committed to Arkansas over Kentucky, Oklahoma State, Liberty, Memphis, Houston, Tulane and Mississippi State. He joins Doneiko Slaughter (Tennessee) as the second defensive back to transfer to Arkansas.

Malik Chavis (uncommitted) and Jaylen Lewis (Temple) are the only defensive backs who have announced their departure from Arkansas.

The Razorbacks improved 100 spots in pass defense finishing No. 32 in the FBS this season, surrendering 202 yards through the air in 2023, an improvement of 92 yards from a season ago.
