Razorbacks Lose Top Spot In Rankings To Fellow SEC Rival

Texas A&M takes over No.1 spot after sweep of Vanderbilt

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Arkansas fell to No. 2 in the latest D1Baseball rankings after losing the final two games of the series against Alabama, including getting shut out 5-0 in the series finale, relinquishing its five-week run at the top spot.

Alabama rose from No. 25 to No. 18 after its series win over the Razorbacks. The Razorbacks also fell to No. 2 in the Perfect Game and Baseball America Rankings with Texas A&M likely to be the new consensus No.1. At the time of writing, the USA Today Coaches Poll and NCBWA had not updated its rankings.

SEC West rival Texas A&M is now one game behind the Hogs after sweeping Vanderbilt in a three-game series, outscoring the Commodores 36-6 including, two blowout shutouts in the first two games of the weekend. The Aggies won by 9-0, 15-0 and 12-6 respectively.

The Razorbacks lost their co-stranglehold on the best SEC record. Both Arkansas and the Kentucky Wildcats came into the weekend sitting at 11-1. The Wildcats swept Auburn on the road, pushing their record to 14-1 in conference play and rose to No. 3. They are now just three wins away from tying the best start in SEC history. The 2022 Tennessee Volunteers started 17-1.

All of the top four teams hail from the SEC. Tennessee held steady at No. 4 after a 4-0 week that included a sweep of LSU.

The Hogs return home to play a two-game midweek series against Texas Tech. First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m. Tuesday and will be broadcast on ESPN2
