Should Auburn Fans Be Concerned About Quarterback Recruiting?

How many quarterback recruiting options do the Tigers have?

The Auburn Tigers need a quality quarterback in just about every recruiting class. After all, it’s the most important position on the gridiron. Unlike last year, the Tigers may are not trending in a good direction.

From the 2024 recruiting class, Walker White comes to Auburn as an early enrollee. He’s very talented. White is the level of quarterback recruit the Tigers need each year to provide the best opportunity to win big. Some of the quarterbacks will pan out and others will not.

The key is to possess as many viable options as possible. So far in the 2025 recruiting class, Auburn is going after big names. There’s Saraland (Ala.) High School signal-caller KJ Lacey, Carrollton (Ga.) High School product Julian Lewis, and Corona (Calif.) Centennial passer Husan Longstreet

All three are inside the Rivals 100, with Lacey at #19, Lewis at #1, and Longstreet at #19. While going after the best is expected, there’s reason for concern at this juncture.

Lacey is a Texas commitment and appears to be set on the Longhorns despite visiting Auburn multiple times. Lewis is a Southern California commitment who did visit twice as well. There’s more perceived momentum with the Trojans, as well as Georgia and Alabama.

Depending on whom one asks, Auburn would be the leader, albeit a week or so ago. Texas A&M is now trending for the California prospect and that’s a big blow to Auburn’s recruiting efforts. Visiting for Auburn’s A-Day, he’s a quarterback who would be a tremendous fit in Hugh Freeze’s run-pass option offense. Longstreet is set to announce his decision on April 14.

If the Tigers fail to land any of their top three targets, it will be interesting to see which quarterback(s) are targeted moving forward.

Plus, there’s the chance AU could utilize the Transfer Portal. Auburn’s quarterback recruiting is not looking good right now but there’s a long way to go before reaching National Signing Day.
