Auburn Commitment Explains Why He Chose The Tigers

Auburn's recruiting efforts are extending into South Florida

MIAMI, Fla. - One of Auburn's commitments is coming off a great performance at the Miami Under Armour camp, and he's just going to be a junior in high school.

Auburn's 2026 recruiting class already possesses two commitments. The Tigers coaching staff is recruiting beyond the 2025 class and that's the proper approach in today's landscape of college football.

Teams that do not continually build relationships with top underclassmen do not possess much of a chance to land top-10 recruiting classes like Auburn just did for the class of 2024. There are also key relationships that Auburn must utilize to build a top recruiting class, and that's where Denairius Gray comes into play.

Per Rivals, the 6-foot-2 and 183-pound wide receiver is the #89 prospect in the 2026 class. Committed to Auburn since Jan. 1, 2024, he has a strong bond with Auburn wide receivers coach Marcus Davis.

"My relationship with coach Marcus (Davis) is really strong," Gray said of the primary reason he chose Auburn. "He's from the same city I'm from and he's lived on the same street I did."

Yes, literally the same street in Boynton Beach, Fla. Gray is really connected with Davis.

"He wants me to be the best version of myself on and off the field, and our relationship is great. So, that's really why I decided to commit to Auburn."

The last point on Gray's recruitment stems from him heading back to the Plains.

"I'm going up there on the 16th of this month."

As for Gray's development, he's really taking off. Here's his perspective on what he's capable of on the gridiron, starting with which specific wide receiver position he prefers among boundary, slot, and flanker.

"No, I really do whatever's best for the team. I'm a really versatile receiver that can play inside and outside."

Gray knows there are still areas he can improve upon.

"I would say speed. I am a vertical threat, so getting my speed up would help me with my routes and selling other routes. That's something I can work on for sure, that's speed."

From just watching Gray's athleticism from Sunday's Miami Under Armour Camp, he absolutely played great. For a long-legged receiver, he's starting to learn how and when to mix up his moves to separate from defensive backs. He also possesses tremendous hands and catches the football away from his body.

Auburn has a really good wide receiver commitment in Gray.
