Former Auburn Quarterback Cam Newton Involved In 7v7 Fight

Auburn's former Heisman winner involved in a fight

In the world of seven-on-seven football, there's a lot of smack talk.

One of the biggest names in the industry is former Auburn quarterback and Heisman winner Cam Newton. He operates C1N, a top-notch program that travels the country and competes along the seven-on-seven circuit.

Obviously, Newton is rich as a former NFL MVP and famous personality. Did that have something to do with the fight that happened? Possibly. In fact, there's a pretty good chance it did.

From this point forward, this is my take on the situation as I've been around Newton at multiple tournaments.

First off, Newton is not shy. He's not been afraid to bark back at people who throw shade towards his team, players, or himself. I'd be shocked if that's not the case with this past weekend's fight. It's all over social media and a person can use this link to see it.

That being the case, Newton has always been cool with me and the people in the recruiting media I know well. We interview his top-notch recruits like any other program. C1N is a big-time 7v7 team loaded with prospects, to be clear, so that's a big help to all of us.

Now, did Newton say something he should not have? I have no idea. My guess, and it's only a guess, is that the three men in the video that came after him were mad about something said to them, or maybe one of their players, by Newton. Maybe I'm completely wrong. Again, I don't know. Which side started it with some sort of verbal jab, I have no clue either.

Regardless of which person started it, this type of stuff happens, every once in a while, in seven-on-seven. Newton is a big target because of his name and popularity. Then add his outspoken personality and fights do happen. Those factors likely come into play, too.

As for three grown men going after Newton and not winning, that's not surprising to me either. I recently saw him at the Battle Miami tournament and told him point-blank, "'Damn Cam, I didn't know you were still working out like that.'" He just smiled and said, "Thank you."

To be abundantly clear, Newton still looks like he's about to line up in an NFL game; he's yoked. He's not a dude I'd want to tick off.
