Auburn is in a heated battle with Alabama to land five-star receiver Perry Thompson

Perry Thompson is "leaning toward Auburn," according to a recruiting expert.

Auburn has been trying to flip five-star wide receiver Perry Thompson from Alabama for some time, and it seems like the Tigers have a real shot.

Locked On Recruiting Expert, Brian Smith joined the Locked On Auburn Podcast to discuss this possibility.

Host Zac Blackerby asked Smith where he thinks Thompson would end up.

Smith had this to say, "If I had to pick, I would go Auburn. The reason I say that is if you committed that early to the Tide, then all of a sudden, you start taking visits, and you start talking to Auburn, and there's all this talk even from the Alabama side. That's not just smoke. That's fire. So, I'm going to Auburn.

It sounds like Auburn really is in this race and has a shot at landing one of the best receiver commits in Auburn football history.

Thanks to his six-foot-three 202-pound frame, Thompson would fit in perfectly with what Coach Freeze wants to do with a wideout.

If Coach Freeze was able to pull this off, the Auburn faithful would be singing in the streets.

Hopefully, Thompson makes up his mind soon, but this could take all the way up until the signing day.

Hopefully, Auburn stays in the fire when it comes to Thompson's recruitment and is able to finish the job.
