After a massive reset on the Plains, many fans of the Auburn Tigers are cautiously optimistic about the future of the program under new head coach Alex Golesh. A large reason for the optimism is the Tigers’ new quarterback, Byrum Brown, who has proven to be one of the best in the league throughout his career.

Recently, Brown sat down with Auburn legend Takeo Spikes for Spikes’ “Behind the Mask” podcast, and the two discussed what Brown is expecting from himself and his team in the upcoming season.

Brown, who was the only quarterback in football last year with over 3,000 passing yards and 1,000 rushing yards, was very clear about his expectations for himself as he steps into a new role with the Tigers.

“You're gonna get everything,” he said. “Every single game. Whether I gotta run, whether I gotta throw, I’m gonna do whatever it takes to win. That’s just who I am as a quarterback, who I am as a teammate… You're gonna get everything out of me.”

As for the rest of the program, Brown was clear that he believes the Tigers deserve to be on top and that they will be under Golesh’s rule.

“Not saying it’s gonna be an easy feat at all,” Brown said, “but [I want to help] bring Auburn back to what it should be. Plan on winning every single game, win the SEC Championship, win the [College Football Playoff], to really bring Auburn back to where it should be.”

The bar is set high for an Auburn team that won just one of eight conference games last year, but Brown told Spikes that he believes the team chemistry to achieve that goal has already begun to develop.

“Bryce Cain, he gets it,” Brown said. “Of course, the people from the last spot get it. Jeremiah Cobb, he gets it. Obviously still learning, there’s mistakes here and there, but I mean they’re dialed in, they’re focused, they want to know all the ins and outs.”

For Brown’s part, though, there is one game that he has circled on his calendar for the 2026 season, and it is an unsurprising one: the Iron Bowl.

“The last one [on the schedule],” he said. “No need for an explanation. Auburn, we gonna do what we do. I can’t wait, and this team can’t wait.”

As they always seem to be, expectations are sky-high for this year’s Auburn squad, and Brown is right there along with them. However, talk only means so much, and the true test for Brown, Golesh and the Tigers will only come once the season begins.
