Game Log: No. 5 Baylor Bears Take Cruises Past Norfolk State, 87-70

Bears host Spartans after coasting to season opening victory over Mississippi Valley State.

The No. 5 ranked Baylor Bears host the Norfolk State Spartans at the Ferrell Center for their second game of the season in a rematch of last year's Round of 64 in the NCAA Tournament, which the Bears won, 85-49.

The Bears come in at 1-0 after a lopsided 117-53 victory over the Mississippi Valley State Delta Devils Monday. The Spartans enter the game at 2-0 with convincing wins over Virginia University of Lynchburg and Cairn University.

Baylor leads the all-time series against Norfolk State 3-0, with an average margin of victory of 35 points. The Bears are 19-0 all-time against teams from the MEAC and are 39-3 in non-conference games over the last three seasons.

Under-16

Baylor leads 13-7 as Keyonte George has two 3-pointers, including a 4-point play, for his 7 points.

Under-12

Baylor leads 22-13 and got it started with Flo Thamba getting a layup and-one off a pick and roll feed from George. Two possessions later, George had a steal and a breakaway dunk to put the Bears up 18-9. Flagler's three-pointer just before the break gave the Bears the 9-point advantage.

Under-8

Baylor leads 30-17. Jalen Bridges slammed a fast break dunk from Flagler to give the Bears their biggest advantage of the night at 26-13 and capping off a 7-0 run. 

Under-4

The Spartans rattle off five straight points as Bryant hit a three to cut the lead to nine. Geroge answered with his fourth 3-pointer of the night. Ings hits a jumper and the Spartans make their last three field goals to cut the Baylor lead to 34-27.

Halftime: Baylor 42, Norfolk State 34

Loveday dunks off a slick feed from the three-point line from George. Bryant hit a three-pointer to cut the Baylor lead to five. Flagler hits back-to-back three pointers to bring the lead back to eight.

Second Half

Under-16

Baylor lead 55-38. Flagler gets the first points of the half over two minutes in with a 3-pointer, followed by a three-pointer from George on the next possession to push the lead to 48-36. Bridges cashes in on a reverse layup in transition and then hits a three on the next possession to give Baylor their largest lead of the night at 17. Flo Thamba slow to get up as he grabs at his ankle.

Under-12

Baylor leads 66-48. Ings with a dunk and-one as Ojiunwuna gets his third foul. Flagler with a nifty two-point bank shot after he put his defender on skates. Langston Love hits a three-pointer to give the Bears their biggest lead at 18. 

Under-8

Baylor leads 69-52. Norfolk State outscored Baylor 4-3 in less than two minutes of play between timeouts.

Under-4

Baylor leads 78-62. Joe Bryant hits a three-pointer on the first possession out of the timeout and a dunk on the next possession cuts the lead to 12. LJ Cryer and Bridges hit three-pointers on back-to-back possessions to push the lead to 18. Bridges with the layup plus the foul and is now Baylor's leading scorer with 20 points.

George with five straight points out of the timeout via a three-pointer and a transition alley-oop layup from Cryer. George with an alley-oop to Lohner to push the lead to 19.

Final Score: Baylor 87, Norfolk State 70
