WACO, TexasBaylor football trails No. 19 Kansas State, 17-3, at halftime.

If you prefer exciting, fast-paced football, this is not the game for you. Both Baylor and Kansas State have committed to drawing out drives and chewing as much clock as possible.

While that initially looked like frequent runs for the Wildcats, an injury to quarterback Adrian Martinez changed things. That welcomed second-stringer Will Howard into the game.

His arm shined. The veteran quarterback went 11-14 for 129 yards and two passing touchdowns after entering the game. The Bears could not stop anything.

The first quarter was just a snoozer. Kansas State's opening drive stalled inside the Baylor 40-yard line after a sack of Martinez on fourth down.

The Bears' ensuing possession marched the ball to the Kansas State 17-yard line. That's where Blake Shapen threw an interception on third and nine.

The Wildcats' third drive of the night would take the first quarter to zeros. Yep. It was that kind of start. Three total possessions and a whole lot of taking time off the board.

That possession would conclude in a Kansas State touchdown, though, with 14:20 left in the second quarter. A 12-play, 97-yard drive concluded in a 15-yard touchdown pass from Howard.

Wouldn't you know, Baylor's next drive resulted in a punt. Kansas State's next drive resulted in a field goal. Make it 10-0, Wildcats. Cue a Baylor punt. Cue a long Kansas State drive and touchdown. 17-0, Wildcats.

Baylor's final drive of the half did result in a 37-yard field goal. It wasn't all a wash, but it was pretty close.

Kansas State had 19:50 of possession and leads 17-3 at the break.
