One team just had more gas, and that team was BYU.

PROVO, Utah — The No. 9 Baylor Bears (1-1) veered into hostile territory and fell to No. 21 BYU, 26-20, in double-overtime.

BYU missed a field goal as time expired. Both teams came up scoreless in the first overtime period. There was a penalty every other play.

In the end, though, BYU had more juice. The Cougars scored in the second overtime rather quickly and held the Bears, who had first and goal from the five. Let's try and recap.

In the first half, the offense just didn't really exist. BYU aced a chip-shot field goal on its first possession of the game to take a 3-0 lead.

That field goal came with 11:31 on the clock in the first quarter. The next score came with 1:37 remaining in the second. That's 24:54 of game time without a single point.

That changed when Baylor orchestrated a methodical drive to break the touchdown drought with a short Qualan Jones score that garnered a 6-3 lead. The extra point was missed.

BYU had just 1:37 left on the clock. It only needed 1:35 to rally a score. Eight plays and 75 yards later, the Cougars led 10-6 and carried that momentum into halftime.

With momentum on BYU's side, that oddly segued into a Baylor touchdown to open the second half thanks to an electric 77-yard drive that was capped by Jones's second touchdown.

Things looked solid for Baylor. That is until BYU rattled off 10 unanswered points to take a 20-13 lead.

Leading into the fourth quarter, this happened. It's impossible to describe accurately. Momentum was squarely with BYU.

Immediately ensuing, though, a mythical drive ended in Shapen hitting Ben Sims for a short score to tie things at 20. Hello, instant classic.

After each team held an empty possession, BYU took the ball back with 2:08 on the clock at their own 10-yard line. The Cougars drove, and drove, and drove.

Insert a 37-yard bomb to Chase Roberts that put BYU at the Baylor 19. That led to a 35-yard field goal to win it.

Welcome to a moment in history.

Yep, overtime... only for Baylor to miss a 42-yard field goal.

That set BYU up for an easy 37-yard game-winner.

Welcome to a moment in history.

That's three consecutive missed field goals.

To start overtime period number two, BYU finally scored a touchdown. However, their two-point conversion would not go.

Baylor took the ball back with the intent to punch it in and knot things, but the Cougars had other plans. A myriad of penalties led to 4th and goal from the 12-yard-line, and Shapen threw incomplete.

BYU finished off the Bears 26-20.
