We are officially in the month of the NFL Draft, and teams are starting to finalize their boards in anticipation of the biggest event of the offseason when it kicks off in Pittsburgh on April 23.

Baylor is set to have three guys who are likely to hear their name called throughout the weekend, with some debate as to who will have their name called first.

Quarterback Sawyer Robertson is likely to be picked on the third day of the draft. Wide receiver Josh Cameron and tight end Michael Trigg are set to hear their name called anywhere from the second round or into the early portions of day three.

ESPN recently conducted a mock draft where they called the name of one Baylor Bear in the first three rounds.

With the 98th pick, the Philadelphia Eagles took Trigg to potentially be the heir apparent to Dallas Goedert.

“Philly needs an upgrade at tight end with Dallas Goedert on the decline and set to be a free agent in 2027. Trigg has the speed and power to be a starter-level player,” ESPN said.

How He Fits

The Eagles have been one of the best organizations in football over the last four years. They’ve appeared in two Super Bowls, and they’ve won one, a 40-22 romp over Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl 59.

One of the reasons their offense has been prolific with Jalen Hurts as their trigger man is the steady presence of Goedert as his tight end.

Goedert had a big season last year, finding the end zone 11 times, but the Eagles and Goedert still found themselves at an impasse this offseason in regards to his contract.

Goedert wants to continue playing, and ultimately the Eagles found a resolution with the veteran tight end, but he is clearly on borrowed time in Philadelphia due to his age, and some of the salary cap realities that are about to hit them.

Eventually, they’ll need to get younger and cheaper at the skill positions around Hurts and the rest of their offense.

Trigg is someone who could fit the bill, and has been seen as a tight end who fits well in the Kyle Shanahan scheme that has taken over half of the league.

That includes the Eagles, who hired Sean Mannion out of Green Bay this offseason to be their offensive coordinator.

The Packers used a lot of two tight end sets last year with Tucker Kraft and Luke Musgrave when they were both healthy.

Mannion could find use for Trigg to help stretch the middle of the field and learn under Goedert as his understudy for at least one season.

There are not a lot of places that could potentially be a better fit for Trigg than the Eagles. They could bring him along slowly, while also giving him a chance to say the field in an offense that likes to use its tight ends.
