Kansas State Offensive Players to Watch vs. Baylor in Week 11

Wildcats' spread offense heads to McLane Stadium, aims to improve upon last season's eight-win campaign

The Kansas State Wildcats visit Waco, Texas in week 11 for a Big 12 showdown against the Baylor Bears at McLane Stadium on Saturday, Nov. 12 at 6 p.m. Central Time on FS1.

Kansas State's spread offense returns to the gridiron after garnering eight wins in 2021, with a goal to improve upon last season's success.

So far, so good, as the Wildcats enter Saturday's contest with a 6-3 overall record and a 4-2 mark in the Big 12 Conference.

With that in mind, let's take a quick look at some of the key Wildcats offensive players to keep an eye on against Baylor coach Dave Aranda and the Bears in week 11.

QB Adrian Martinez

Senior quarterback Adrian Martinez enters the 2022 season after transferring from Nebraska, where he was the Husker's starter in 2021.

Thus far in 2022, Martinez has completed 111-of-176 passes (63.1 percent) for 1,236 passing yards, six touchdowns and just one interception. He has also garnered 617 rushing yards on 106 carries with 10 touchdowns.

Last year for Nebraska, Martinez started the first 11 games before sustaining an injury that sidelined him for the season finale. He threw for 2,863 yards with 14 touchdowns while rushing for 525 yards and 13 touchdowns.

RB Deuce Vaughn

Junior running back Deuce Vaughn has appeared in 32 games in his first two-plus years with the Wildcats, improving in numerous categories every season.

Thus far in 2022, Vaughn has rushed for 975 yards on 173 carries with five touchdowns along with 216 receiving yards on 30 receptions with two touchdowns.

Last year for Kansas State, Vaughn garnered 1,404 rushing yards on 235 carries with 18 touchdowns along with 468 receiving yards on 49 receptions with four touchdowns.

WR Malik Knowles

Senior wide receiver Malik Knowles enters his fifth year with Kansas State, appearing in 46 total games since the 2018 season.

So far this year, Knowles has racked up 540 receiving yards on 35 receptions with one touchdown along with 75 rushing yards on just one attempt with a touchdown. He has also thrown one pass this season, completing it for 11 yards.

Last season for the Wildcats, Knowles hauled in 441 receiving yards on 29 receptions with four touchdowns along with 106 rushing yards on 15 carries. He also recorded 662 kick return yards on 20 attempts with two touchdowns.

WR Phillip Brooks

Senior wide receiver and return man Phillip Brooks is also entering his fifth year with the Wildcats football program, appearing in 48 games since the 2018 season.

So far this year, Brooks has hauled in 402 receiving yards on 27 catches with three touchdowns and has tallied nine rushing yards on two carries. As a punt returner, he has amassed 145 yards on seven attempts with one touchdown while adding 48 yards on two attempts on kick returns.

Last season for Kansas State, Brooks garnered 543 receiving yards on 43 receptions with two touchdowns. He also registered 62 kick return yards on four attempts and 86 punt return yards on 10 returns.
