Baylor Bears Offensive Lineman Micah Mazzccua Enters Transfer Portal

The 6-foot-5, 331-pound left guard is a freak athlete with strong run-blocking ability.

Baylor offensive lineman Micah Mazzccua, a redshirt sophomore who started 10 games this season, is entering the transfer portal, he announced on Twitter.

“This decision has been very hard on me,” Mazzccua wrote on Twitter. “These memories will forever stay in my heart.”

Mazzccua was a three-star prospect coming out of St. Frances Academy in Baltimore, Maryland. He picked Michigan over offers from Michigan, Virginia Tech and Maryland, among others. He also competed in the Under Armour All-America Game.

During his time at Baylor, and particularly this season, Mazzccua’s stock has risen dramatically. He immediately caught the eyes of scouts this season with a rock-solid performance against Albany, and at one point was Pro Football Focus’ sixth-highest graded offensive guard in the country.

Mazzccua played a major role in the Bears’ rushing offense, which ranked No. 10 nationally in rushing touchdowns per game. Behind Mazzccua and the rest of the offensive line, three Baylor running backs (Richard Reese, Craig “Sqwirl” Williams, and Qualan Jones) averaged over five yards per attempt. Reese won Big 12 Offensive Freshman of the Year honors.

Mazzccua is the fourth Baylor player to enter the transfer portal since the end of the season. Seth Jones, Devin Neal, and Kyron Drones (who’s going to Virginia Tech) all entered the transfer portal on Dec. 5. On Wednesday, the Bears brought in offensive lineman Campbell Barrington from BYU.

This announcement isn’t the first big hit Baylor’s 2023 offensive line has taken this month. On Dec. 6, four-star offensive lineman Calvin Clements out of Free State High School in Lawrence, Kansas de-committed from the Bears. He committed to Kansas the following day.
