Talented In-State RB Bryson Washington Flips Commitment from SMU to Baylor

The Bears added another talented recruit to the 2023 class

The Baylor Bears remain red hot on the recruiting trail so far this offseason, boasting one of the best classes in the Big 12

On Monday, that momentum continued, with talented 2023 Franklin (TX) running back prospect Bryson Washington flipping his commitment to the Bears from the SMU Mustangs. 

Washington announced his commitment via his personal Twitter account on Monday afternoon. 

"First, I want to start this off by thanking the SMU coaching staff for believing in me and my talents to compete at the next level," Washington said in a statement. "After conversations with my family, I have decided to de-commit from SMU. Although I am making this move there's no love lost for SMU and the city of Dallas! I will now make my commitment to Baylor University."

Washington originally committed to the Mustangs on June 12, and now just over a week later, has reversed his decision following an official visit to Waco on June 17.

The 5-foot-11, 197 running back picked the Bears over offers from Boston College, Houston, Indiana, Iowa Stae, TCU, Texas Tech, and Arkansas, among many others.

During his junior campaign, Washington was named the 13-3A Division II Overall Co-MVP and led Franking to a 16-0 record with a state championship. He was also named the district MVP in his 2020 sophomore season. and lead his team to the state title game, while playing on both sides of the ball. 

Washington played on varsity during his freshman season as well, and was named the district newcomer of the year. 

Over his sophomore and junior seasons, Washington rushed 215 times for 2,856 yards (13.28 yards per carry) and 39 touchdowns on the ground. He also has five receptions for 212 yards and four touchdowns. 

On defense, Washington has 239 tackles, five tackles for loss, 19 pass breakups, five forced fumbles, four fumble recoveries, four interceptions and two defensive touchdowns in his last two seasons.
