Report: Filip Petrusev Won't Return to Gonzaga

One of Gonzaga's best players has reportedly started his professional career in Europe. According to Euro Hoops, Filip Petrusev decided to start his professional career in Serbia. Their report says the following:

"After two years at Gonzaga University, Filip Petrusev decided to start his professional career in his hometown – Belgrade, Serbia – with Mega Bemax, according to Nova.rs."

Update: Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports confirmed the news stating that Petrusev "has signed a multi-year deal with Mega Bemax."

Petrusev declared for the NBA Draft in April but kept his options open when he declined to sign with an agent.

If the report is true, this could dramatically change the outlook of the upcoming season for Gonzaga. Petrusev averaged over 17 points per game last season and beat out Yoeli Childs for the West Coast Conference player of the year. According to Joe Lunardi's latest bracketology, Lunardi projected the Zags as the overall number one seed in college basketball. In the same projections, BYU was left on the outside looking in.

For BYU, this is an especially interesting development as the Cougars are building a roster to compete with the Zags. BYU is well positioned in the front court after adding Matt Haarms as a graduate transfer. Gavin Baxter and Wyatt Lowell are also intriguing pieces for BYU in the front court.
