Kuany Kuany, who started 26 games for Cal this past season, became the second Bears basketball player to enter the transfer portal.

Kuany entered the portal earlier this week, according to On3, just a few days after Joel Brown entered the transer portal.

The 6-foot-9 Kuany was one of three Cal players to play in all 32 games this past season.  He played several positions for Cal and averaged 9.0 points and 3.9 rebounds in 2022-23, both of which ranked second on the team among players who were available for more than half the season. He shot 35.9% from the floor and 29.8% on three-pointers.

Kuany played four seasons for Cal, but because one of those seasons was the 2019-20 season, which did not count against eligibility because of the pandemic, Kuany has one more season of college eligibility.

The Bears finished 2022-23 with a 3-29 record, the worst in program history, and coach Mark Fox was dismissed following the season. The Bears have not yet hired a new coach, and it might be a while before they do.

Cal placed last in the Pac-12 with a 2-18 conference record, and the Bears ended the season on a 16-game losing streak.

Besides being a starter this past season, Kuany started 16 games in 2021-22 as a junior, three as a sophomore and two as a junior.

He is from Melbourne, Australia, and played his final year of high school ball at Prolific Prep Academy in Napa, Calif.
