The Cal players made available for interviews in the aftermath of Saturday's 35-0 loss at Utah were adamant about ending their current four-game losing skid, even if they were low-key in their defiance.

There were no loud boasts from linebacker Evan Weaver, who earlier this season promised the Bears would travel to Washington and upset the defending Pac-12 champions.

Weaver vowed only that he would not end his college career as a "posey," which is the least you'd expect from the Bears' often-outspoken leader after collecting 22 tackles against the Utes.

Offensive tackle Jake Curhan sat alongside freshman quarterback Spencer Brasch as if to provide the same protection he does during the game,

"There's a certain way we do things here and just because the outcomes haven't been what we wanted that doesn't compromise our principles," Curhan said.

Curhan said he "absolutely" believes the team still has confidence in itself.

"I told the team two weeks ago I expected to win every single game from this point on, and I still expect to win every single game from this point on."

Pulling that off would be even more stunning than the current four-game skid, which has its roots at least partially in a spate of injuries at quarterback offensive line and wide receiver.

The Bears don't need to win four more games to earn a bowl bid, but they need two more just to qualify and, quite possibly, three to actually secure a postseason berth.

That won't be easy because three of the Bears' next four opponents -- USC, Stanford and UCLA suddenly are playing better than they have all season.

But it starts with a bye this week, then a home date against Washington State on Nov. 9. The Cougars are also 4-4 and have lost four of their past five games, although they did take Oregon to the finish on Saturday before losing 37-35.
