Cal received a commitment over the weekend from defensive back Tyson McWilliams of St. Augustine High School in San Diego.

McWilliams is a 6-foot-3 cornerback who reportedly has timed 4.47 seconds in the 40-yard dash.

He is not ranked among rivals.com’s top 250 national prospects in the class of 2020 and is rated the 98-best prospect in California.

The 247 Sports website ranks McWilliams as the 1,302-best prospect in the nation overall and the 120th cornerback prospect.

He received offers from 19 FBS schools, including BYU, Nebraska, Iowa State and Oregon State.

He took his official visit to Cal over the weekend and committed on Sunday.

McWilliams announced his decision on Twitter.

“I want to thank all the coaches that recruited me. I also want to thank God, my Family, & Friends for sticking by my side through this decision. With that being said,I am COMMITTED to The University of California Berkeley. Go Bears . #TAKERS

McWilliams is the fourth cornerback to commit in this Cal class, joining Isaiah Young, Dejuan Butler and Collin Gamble. Another defensive back, safety Trey Paster, has also committed to the Bears.

“It went really well. It was a great time,” said McWilliams of the visit, according to Bear Insider. “It was a great atmosphere at the game, despite the result. They just showed me and my family a great time this weekend. It got to know some of the players, too, and hung out with them a while. It just felt like the right fit.”

McWilliams is the 23rd player in the 2020 class that has made a commitment to Cal. None of the commitments are binding until they sign a letter of intent.
