All Cal fans know Cal’s Memorial Stadium, in the heart of lovely Strawberry Canyon, provides a wonderful setting to watch a football game (or any other event, for that matter).

Well, apparently the rest of the nation is catching on as well. Lindy’s preseason college football magazine rated the “5 Best Stadiums to Take a Selfie,” and guess which one was at the top of the list.

So take a little time before and after tonight’s game against USC to enjoy the surroundings, and maybe take a selfie or two of the San Francisco skyline at night. It’s Cal’s final home game of the season, and the game might last until midnight. That would give you a good chance to view the Leonid meteor shower, which will be best viewed between midnight Saturday and dawn Sunday.

Here are Lindy’s top 5 selfie havens.

1. Cal’s Memorial Stadium

2. Michie Stadium, Army

3. Folsom Field, Colorado

4. Michigan Stadium

5. Darrell K. Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium

Before we provide a description of each venue, take a look at the sights from Memorial Stadium looking toward the west and San Francisco.

Here’s what Lindy’s had to say about each, counting backward.

5. Darrell K. Royals-Texas Memorial Stadium:

“Under athletic director Chris del Conte, this place has become an unparalleled game-day party. Before games, Sam Jacinto Blvd. is transformed into a musical and culinary extravaganza. The game is still the thing—especially with Tom Harmon taking off—and formerly sleepy DKR is the place to be.”

4. Michigan Stadium

“The largest college football venue in the country has one of the more raucous tailgates in the game. Arrive early, stay late, get to know 112,000 of your closest friends.”

3. Folsom Field, Colorado:

“If the elements cooperate, one of the most spectacular game-day views in the game. The Flatirons overlook the quaint 95-year old stadium.”

2. Michie Stadium, Army:

“There is so much tradition and history oozing from the place you need a ladle. Three hours before the game you can see the regiments of cadets pass on The Plain, the largest grassy field where George Washington once walked.”

1. Memorial Stadium, Cal:

“If you’ve got the time, climb the stands and get the San Francisco Bay in the background of one shot, the legendary Tightwad Hill in the other.”

True, nothing quite matches Tightwad Hill, a name that says it all. Here is a look at Tightwad Hill and the lush area to the East.

I am a bit surprised Washington’s Husky Stadium was not on the list with its beautiful views of the water.

I also find it interesting that none of Lindy’s selfie-friendly venues is in the Southeastern Conference or the ACC, while two are in the Pac-12. National titles don’t mean everything when it comes to environment, I guess.

This list is different from a USA Today list presented this year that named stadiums with the best college football atmosphere. Cal may have a little ways to go in that category. First it has to fill Memorial Stadium.

But if you just look at the views and sights surrounding Memorial Stadium . . . it’s why Bay Area residents can be a little obnoxious when speaking about where they live. It’s why we pay the big bucks to live here.

What do you readers think? Is there another stadium somewhere in the country that should be on this list of places that could produce a magnificent selfie? Let us know in the comments below.
