Cal Football: Starting Time Announced for Bears' Nov. 9 Home Game Against Washington State

Cal’s November 9 home game against Washington State will begin at 4 p.m., the school announced Monday. It was also announced that the game will be televised by Pac-12 Network.

Cal and Washington State both have byes this week.

Cal (4-4, 1-4 Pac-12) has lost four straight games following its 35-0 road loss to Utah on Saturday night.

It is unclear who will be Cal’s quarterback for the game against Washington State. Freshman Spencer Brasch started Saturday’s game against Utah because Devon Modster was out with an unspecified injury. Modster is questionable for the game against the Cougars. There is also an outside chance that Chase Garbers will return for the Washington State game. The Bears have never issued a timetable for his return, but they did say he was expected to be back this season. The Washington State game seemed to be the earliest Garbers could possibly return, although Cal has provided no update on his status.

Washington State is also 4-4 with a 1-4 conference record after losing to Oregon 37-35. The Cougars took a 35-34 lead by scoring a touchdown with one minutes left, but the Ducks kicked a game-winning field goal on the game’s final play.

Washington State has lost four of its past five games after starting the season 3-0, which earned the Cougars a No. 19 national ranking. In the fourth game, Washington State blew a 49-17 lead against UCLA in the Bruins’ 67-63 victory.

The Bears have played the Cougars tough since Justin Wilcox became Cal’s head coach. In 2017, Cal was coming off a three-game losing streak when it stunned eighth-ranked Washington State 37-3, handing the Cougars their first loss of the season. Last year, Cal traveled to Pullman, Wash., late in the season and nearly pulled off another upset. Tenth-ranked Washington State won that game 19-13 by scoring the go-ahead touchdown with 32 second remaining in the game.

Radio broadcasts of all Cal football games can be heard live on KGO 810 AM.
