Sophomore Jermaine Terry II, Cal's starting tight end this past season, announced on twitter Thursday that he is entering the transfer portal.

This a significant loss for Cal, although it's unclear how important the tight end position will be in the offense that new offensive coordinator Jake Spavital will install. The tight end spot was crucial in the offense former Cal offensive coordinator Bill Musgrave ran, which is why Cal used multiple players at that position.

Keleki Latu, the other tight end who received significant playing time for Cal the past two seasons, also entered the transfer portal after the 2022 season.

Terry is the 16th Cal player to enter the transfer portal and his announcement comes one day after it was reported that wide receiver J.Michael Sturdivant was entering the transfer portal.

Terry and Sturdivant were Cal's highest rated recruits in the class of 2021.

Terry's transfer announcement comes the same day a transfer tight end from Oregon State announced his commitment to Cal

Terry provided no clue regarding his transfer destination, but it's likely that a number schools will be interested based on his size and athleticism.

He was primarily a blocking tight end in the Bears' scheme this past season. Terry had seven receptions for 41 yards this past season and one catch for 11 yards in 2011.

Terry, a Bay Area product who attended Kennedy High School in Richmond, Calif., turned down offers from Alabama, Oregon, Florida, LSU, Utah, Texas A&M, Tennessee, UCLA, Washington, Penn State and others to sign with Cal.
