Notre Dame transfer wide receiver Tobias Merriweather is expected to commit to Cal, according to Matt Zenitz of 247 Sports.

Merriweather has not made an announcement regarding his transfer destination.

Merriweather was a sophomore this past season for the Fighting Irish and had 14 receptions for 284 yards and two touchdowns in 2023.  He averaged 20.3 yards per reception, which was tops on the team. Notre Dame finished the regular season with a 9-3 record and is No. 16 in the final CFP rankings.

As a freshman last year Merriweather played in seven games and caught just one pass, but it was a 41-yard touchdown reception against Stanford (See video below).

Washington, Oregon, UCLA, Arizona and Washington State were among the schools that showed interest in Merriweather after he entered the transfer portal.

The 6-foot-4, 205-pound Merriweather is from Camas, Washington, and attended Union High School.

Coming out of high school he reportedly chose Notre Dame over Stanford, and also had offers from USC, Washington, Michigan, Nebraska, Oregon and Tennessee, among others.

Here is Merriweather's only reception in 2022, a 41-yard touchdown catch against Stanford:

Merriweather caught three passes for 91 yards and a touchdown against Central Michigan this year.  He talks about the game in the video below:

Last April, Merriweather talked about his first season at Notre Dame in the video below:
