Washington (D.C.) quarterback Caleb Williams was named the nation’s No. 1 overall prospect for the class of 2021 on Thursday by SI All-American, and that designation takes on added significance this year.

That’s because there may not be a high school football season in 2020. If there is no high school football season, college recruiters will have to by the film generated by the 2019 season.

And Williams, who recently committed to Oklahoma, did some outstanding things last season.

On Friday, July 17, SI will announce the top 10 quarterback prospects in the class of 2021, and the Golden Bears hope that Cal commit Kai Millner will be among them. It’s a bit of a long shot, but Millner’s rating has improved in recent months.

Cal fans will hope Cal commits Jermaine Terry and J. Michael Sturdivant will be ranked among the top 10 tight ends and wide receivers, respectively, in future top-10 lists, which will be rolled out in the coming days.

The No. 1 quarterback presumably will be Williams.

"He can put his body in kind of unique positions and still throw with accuracy much like a guy named Patrick Mahomes,” said former NFL and college head coach Jim Mora in the SI story announcing the No.1 prospect. "It's really impressive."

Here is a brief excerpt from the SI story on Williams:

One of the most physically gifted prospects at any position at the prep level, the 6-foot-2, 210-pound prospect is known for having a great frame and one of the strongest arms in the country while possessing the athleticism to gash a defense as a scrambler or on designed runs from scrimmage.
