Offensive Tackle Blake Miller Ready to Play On Either Side of the Line

Spring practice is the perfect time to try out guys at new spots. That's exactly what Clemson is doing with sophomore tackle Blake Miller.

It’s hard to top what Blake Miller did as a true freshman. The 6-foot-6 tackles out of Strongsville, Ohio started all 14 games for Clemson at right tackle - just the third true freshman to do that at Clemson since 1944 - and played at an extremely high level, earning Freshman All-American honors, but as Dabo Swinney said “They don’t give out sophomore All-Americans.”.

2023 will pose a new test for Miller, one that many freshman phenoms fail: living up to expectations. At just 19 years old, Blake Miller will be one of the most important pieces on a team that has very lofty postseason expectations.

Where he’ll fit into that team is still up in the air. With the departure of left tackle Jordan McFadden to the NFL, the Clemson coaching staff is exploring moving Miller to the other side of the line.

“Coach [Thomas] Austin definitely said he’d rep me in there at left tackle. I’m excited to give it a shot.” said Miller after day one of spring practice.

Getting reps and earning a spot are two very different things, but spring practice is the perfect opportunity to try out guys at new positions.

“Having the ability to play multiple positions never hurts. Kind of giving that a shot, and giving it my best shot.”

Left tackle wouldn’t be an entirely new experience for Blake Miller. As the starting left tackle at Strongsville High, Miller didn’t allow a sack in his junior and senior seasons.

“Left side is where I played in high school, but I’m just excited. I’ve been trying to work both sides when I workout on my own or when I workout with players here too.”

“Wherever I’m needed, I’m there to play. I’m a team guy. I’ll play wherever the team needs me.”
