Clemson, S.C. (September 25, 2019) – The Clemson Chapter of Uplifting Athletes is using college football as a platform to shine a spotlight on the Rare Disease Community by holding a Touchdown Pledge Drive throughout the month of October.

Uplifting Athletes chapters are run by college football student-athletes. So, for fans, this is a great way to support the players on your favorite team in their off-the-field efforts by supporting their on-field performance in October.

The leadership team of the Clemson Chapter, led by President Will Spiers, and all the members of the 2019 Tigers squad is asking fans to support them when Clemson plays Florida State, Louisville and Boston College by making a pledge through the Clemson Chapter online Touchdown Pledge Drive site at pledgeit.org/clemsontd19.

Fans can simply make a pledge for each touchdown the Tigers score in October, then as the games unfold, watch and cheer as each touchdown scored helps raise money to support the Rare Disease Community.

The proceeds from the Clemson Chapter 2019 Touchdown Pledge Drive support the mission of Uplifting Athletes and its charitable programs: Rare Disease Awareness, Rare Disease Research, Uplifting Experiences and Uplifting Leaders.

The challenges faced by the Rare Disease Community are bigger than any one individual, team or organization can tackle alone. The grassroots effort of the Clemson Chapter, along with a nationwide network of teams, is uniquely positioned to educate and engage the local community and shine a spotlight on rare diseases.

The Clemson Chapter started tackling rare diseases in 2014 when it joined Uplifting Athletes. Founded by former kicker Chandler Catanzaro and long snapper Jim Brown, the student-athlete led Clemson Chapter serves the rare disease community in honor of an assistant coach who fought kidney cancer, a former player who fights Castleman disease, and a member of the Tigers athletic staff whose child battles neuroblastoma.

Support the Clemson Chapter and its efforts to make a difference in the Rare Disease Community by signing up for its 2019 Touchdown Pledge Drive today!

A nonprofit organization founded in 2007, Uplifting Athletes inspires the Rare Disease Community with hope through the power of sport. A rare disease is one that affects fewer than 200,000 Americans and typically lacks financial incentive to make and market new treatments. Uplifting Athletes fulfills its mission through a network of college football student-athlete led chapters, Uplifting Ambassadors and Team UA participants. Since its inception, Uplifting Athletes has raised more than $4.5 million in support of the Rare Disease Community with a third of that, $1.5 million, given to fund rare disease research.
