The Buildup

The No. 3/ 4 Clemson Tigers will host its annual Military Appreciation Day and Purple Out contest when the Tigers host in-state foe Wofford in a non-conference game on Saturday, Nov. 2. Kickoff at Memorial Stadium is scheduled for 4 p.m. ET.

The Tigers enter November on the cusp of a number of school records.

The Tigers are already in the midst of a school-record 23- game winning streak, and last week, Clemson won its 20th consecutive home game. With another victory at Death Valley this week, Clemson can tie the school record for its longest home winning streak, matching the 21 consecutive Memorial Stadium victories posted across the 2013-16 seasons.

In addition to the impressive streaks that the Tigers have collectively, Saturday's game could be historic for head coach Dabo Swinney.

Swinney enters this week in search of his 125th career victory. Per records maintained by Sports Reference, he would become the 10th coach in major college football history to reach 125 wins in 155 or fewer games.

Pregame:

INJURY UPDATE: Though the players may still dress out to be available in emergency circumstances, the following players are currently not expected to play in today’s game against Wofford:

  • No. 3 DE Xavier Thomas
  • No. 14 S Denzel Johnson
  • No. 74 OL John Simpson

MILITARY APPRECIATION DAY: Graduate linebacker Chad Smith has been selected to run the American flag down the hill prior to the game as Clemson observes Military Appreciation Day. Smith comes from a family with extensive military ties, including:

  • Colonel John Smith, father, Air Force (Desert Storm, Bosnia, Somalia)
  • Colonel Eben Darrell Smith, grandfather, Air Force (WWII, Korea, Vietnam)
  • Senior Master Sergeant Monty “Bob” Auxier, grandfather, Air Force (Korea, Vietnam)
  • Senior Chief Petty Officer Rob Auxier, uncle (Desert Storm)
  • Sergeant Frank Blair, uncle, Army (Vietnam)
  • Captain Ben Smith, brother, Air Force Acquisition (Hill Air Force Base, Utah)
  • First Lieutenant Elayne Smith, sister, nurse, Air Force (Afghanistan). Presently on active duty and just this week qualified as an aeromedical evacuation flight nurse who will be stationed at Travis AFB in California.
