Clemson handed out over 20 scholarship offers to 2025 recruits following Dabo Swinney's camp this weekend. One of the players that received an offer happens to have deep ties to Clemson and the football program.

Mal Waldrep, a 3-star offensive tackle prospect per On3, attended camp at Clemson over the weekend. His grandfather Joe Waldrep played linebacker for the Tigers in the 60s. Now, 60 years later, Mal has earned a scholarship offer from the Tigers.

"It meant a lot to me," said Waldrep. "I mean, considering my grandfather played there. And I mean, he's, you know, he's really pushing me. He loves Clemson, teaches me everything about 'em. It was just special for me and my family. And I've been trying to put in as much work as I can and get better for camps like that."

The 6-foot-5, 295-pound tackle prospect has seen his recruiting pick up as of late. Prior to receiving one from Clemson, Waldrep already held offers from Auburn, Florida State, Penn State, and Kentucky, among others. Heading into his junior year at Central Phenix High School in Alabama, it's been a whirlwind of action.

"It's been really crazy. Everything's amped up. And it's all been exciting. You know, I mean, going up to Clemson, I'd really been anticipating going up there for a while, especially after June 1, because I've been going up for like a year. And you know, it all leads up to that day, June 1, basically."

As for what position he'll play on the line, Waldrep says it just depends on which coach you talk to.

"Everyone has a different perspective on it. You know, like, some coaches see me as, like, I have the length for offensive tackle, but also the bend and flexibility and quickness for a guard or a center. But I mean, I'm, I'm willing to play wherever any coach puts me."

Auburn will be a school to watch in this one, as they're just down the road, but the family ties will keep Clemson in the hunt.

"One thing about Clemson is every time I go up there... my relationship with all the coaches that just keeps building and it keeps building and nothing really falls apart. And they all just make me feel like family every single time I come up there. Whereas, I mean, some schools, you know, you just kind of fall apart. Every single time I've been at Clemson our relationship has just kept building."
