“Excited to announce that I’ve accepted the Head Coach position at Northeastern State University!” Chiaverini posted on ‘X’ (formerly Twitter). “Thank you to Chaffey College and our players and staff. Finishing 11-0 American Division & Bowl Champions!! Time to build a Championship Culture at NSU!!,” he concluded.
If anyone can bring a championship culture to a program, it’s Chiaverini. This year, he turned around a Chaffey College team that was 2-18 in the previous two seasons before he arrived. As a result, Chiaverini was named the American Metro League’s ‘Coach of the Year.’
He’ll face an uphill battle at Northeastern State as well. The Riverhawks finished 1-10 this season and were 4-40 since 2019 under head coach J.J. Eckert before he was relieved of his duties last month. Prior to Chaffey, Chiaverini had a stint as an offensive assistant at UCLA in 2022 and spent 2016-21 as the offensive coordinator at his alma mater Colorado.
Chiaverini played wide receiver for the Buffaloes from 1995-’98. He was selected in the fifth round of the 1999 NFL Draft by the Cleveland Browns. After a seven-year pro career, Chiaverini joined the coaching ranks, becoming Mt. San Antonio College’s wide receivers coach in 2007.
