MNF's Troy Aikman proud of Deion Sanders' work at Colorado

From one Cowboys Hall of Famer to another

Troy Aikman believes in Deion Sanders and what's happening in Colorado.

The Monday Night Football commentator recently went on the record with WFAA's Marc Istook about his former Cowboys teammate. He acknowledged how joyful he was for Coach Prime and reminded the naysayers of his Hall of Fame resume.

"I think the misleading thing about Deion is people forget or fail to remember that he's been coaching a long time," Aikman said. "He coached his kids. He coached the youth leagues and then high school. I was really proud of him when he took on the Jackson State job, and I couldn't be more proud of the job that he's doing."

With that said, the legendary QB is rooting for the Buffs, except under one circumstance. "I love following him. Other than when they play UCLA, I'll be pulling for Colorado."

Aikman was at a Dallas area bar promoting his light beer company EIGHT, which is exclusively sold in the Lone Star state and is rapidly growing. Istook asked if Aikman would add to his football experience and take a similar route in coaching like Sanders. Don't count on that happening in the near future, considering Aikman's MNF deal is pretty lucrative.

"For me, coaching just never was in my plans," Aikman admitted. He went on to say coaching wouldn't be something he would enjoy but he didn't rule it out as a future venture.

Prime and the Buffaloes head to Dallas for a week one non-conference matchup with last year's national runner-up TCU. Istook wondered if Aikman was giving CU a chance to pull off the upset in Sanders' debut.

"Man, I don't know. You can't go off of what happened last year," Aikman said. 'He's got 70 new players. My guess is they're a lot better than the ones who left. But I do like TCU. I like Sonny Dykes and what they did last year. I won't comment on who will win that one, but I like both teams."

Aikman enters his second year at ESPN after a 20-year run with FOX. The two-man broadcast team of him and Joe Buck made the transition to Monday Night Football and look to build on the success of the iconic brand.
