Creighton Almost Pulled Off Comeback Against Nebraska

Creighton Bluejays came very close to pulling off a miraculous win over Nebraska Cornhuskers on Tuesday night. The Bluejays fall 6-5, bringing their record to 13-13.
Before coming into this game, Creighton has always had the upper hand in this rivalry. The Bluejays have won eight of the last 10 matchups. But on Tuesday night, the Cornhuskers got the edge over the Bluejays, but the Bluejays didn't go down without a fight.
Creighton was getting blown out, 6-0. However, this team has been resilient all season, and they will find ways to fight back and rally. Creighton scored five runs to make it a one-run game, and they almost got lucky in the final play of the game, where the centerfielder almost dropped the ball because of the power of the wind.
Nebraska started the game by scoring three runs in the second inning. The Cornhuskers would score another run in the third, fifth, and sixth innings. Creighton hitters went cold for the first five innings of the game. Although they had chances in the fourth inning with men on base, they didn't take advantage.
In the bottom of the sixth inning, that's where the rally happened. The Bluejays scored five runs in the inning. Catcher senior Nate McHugh hit a clutch double while the bases were loaded. His double brought in two runners home to cut the deficit to 6-2. McHugh is one of the best hitters in the lineup. McHugh is second on the team with a high batting average. He leads the team with five home runs.
Chris Baillargeon, another productive hitter for the Bluejays, came through in the same inning with a two-run double to make it 6-4. Afterward, infielder graduate student Rocco Gump collected an RBI single for the fifth run of the inning.
McHugh finished the night with three hits. Baillargeon added two hits. Teddy Deters, who is usually one of the best-run producers for Creighton, didn't add any runs, but he's the team leader in walks (18) and has three home runs and nine RBIs in the series while hitting .271.
Bluejay starter Ian Koosman is still winless this season. Koosman got his third loss of the season. Gavin Blachowicz earned the win for Nebraska, improving to 3-1. J'Shawn Unger closed out the game for the Cornhuskers. It's his fourth save of the season.
Creighton will play against the Connecticut Huskies (15-15, 2-1 Big East) in a Big East showdown on Thursday at 5:05 p.m. Central.
