Incoming Duke basketball freshman Joaquim Boumtje Boumtje has begun to generate a ton of hype heading into his first year of college basketball.

As an international prospect, most college basketball fans were unaware of who Boumtje Boumtje was as a prospect, but the big man presents truly untapped potential as he enters the college game at just 17 years old.

Arguably the most fascinating part about the 7'2" talent's future at Duke is that he must spend at least two seasons in college basketball before potentially heading to the NBA. That gives Jon Scheyer, one of the best developers of talent in college basketball, two years with one of the most elite prospects he has had since he took over.

How Joaquim Boumtje Boumtje's Shooting Changes Duke's Ceiling

Listed at 7'2", Boumtje Boumtje provides a lot of skills one would expect from a big man. Stellar rim protection, two-way rebounding ability, and defensive versatility. However, it's his offensive skill that really stands out.

Boumtje Boumtje is a talented passer, can create for himself, and has a proven outside shot. The big man shot over 50% from three-point range at the FIBA U17 World Cup this summer with Team USA and 47% from the perimeter with FC Barcelona at the Adidas NextGen EuroLeague Tournament. He won the MVP award in both events.

CBS Sports Director of Basketball Scouting Adam Finkelstein laid out how Boumtje Boumtje's shooting at his size changes what the Blue Devils can accomplish offensively this season.

"Duke, I think, is listing him at 7'2" in their roster, I think that's a bit of an exaggeration. But the most recent measurements that I saw were seven-feet with bare feet," Finkelstein said. "And so that shows someone who's going to have the skill to play those jumbo lineups where we saw last year because of his shot-making. So they can really go with a Twin Towers-type look there with Patrick Ngongba at the five."

Duke Has Length Everywhere

If two things are clear about this Duke roster heading into the season, it's that it has depth and elite positional length. Scheyer has emphasized positional defensive length each offseason, and this roster exemplifies that perfectly.

With Boumtje Boumtje, he can operate as the four or the five, giving Duke another seven-footer to deploy in different situations. The fact that he is a threat as a volume three-point shooter completely changes what the Blue Devils can do offensively with different lineups on the floor.

Boumtje Boumtje has the defensive capabilities to play either the four or the five, with the outside shooting to play at different spots on that end of the floor.
