Burnt shirt freshman report: Week Three

The Blue Devils played eight true freshmen in the week three win at Middle Tennessee State. Four freshmen saw action in their third college game, bringing them to within one of the four-game redshirt limit.

Jalon Calhoun: His star continued to rise. Calhoun had six catches in seven targets for 46 yards. He caught a 12-yard touchdown, his third of the year, and recovered a fumble. Played: 3, Remaining: 1
Eli Pancol: (pictured at top) Pairs with Calhoun to give Duke a pair of game-breaking freshmen receivers. Had one catch in two targets, for an 11-yard touchdown, his second of the year. Played: 3, Remaining: 1
Jacob Monk: Started at tackle for the third week, and he didn’t draw any penalties for the second straight game. Played: 3, Remaining: 1
John Gelotte: Got into the game for the third week in a row as the third tight end. Played 3, Remaining 1
Jalen Alexander: The defensive back continued to get time on defense, in addition to special teams. Had a solo tackle in the first quarter and later picked up a quarterback hurry. Played: 2, Remaining: 2.
Darrell Harding Jr.: Played for the second straight week. Had one catch for six yards. Played: 2, Games remaining in redshirt: 2
Jaylen Coleman: Played for the second straight week. Rushed once for loss of six yards. Played: 2, Remaining: 2
Jordan Waters: Returned after not playing against A&T. Was one of the ends when Duke went to the triple option in the third quarter. Rushed once for seven yards. Played: 2, Remaining: 2

RJ Oben: Didn’t see the field after getting time in the first two games. Played 2, Remaining 2
Elijah Wroten: Didn’t get in after playing at the end of week two. Played: 1, Remaining: 3.
