The Blue Devils played six true freshmen in the win at Virginia Tech.

Five freshmen saw action in their third college game, bringing them to within one of the four-game redshirt limit.

At the limit:

Jalon Calhoun: Got the start and caught three balls for six yards. Also threw a touchdown pass. Played: 4, Remaining: 0

Eli Pancol: Saw his playing time reduced with Jake Bobo’s return to the lineup after missing the first three games with a broken collarbone. Was not targeted on offense. Played: 4, Remaining: 0

Jacob Monk: Started at tackle for the fourth week, and he didn’t draw any penalties for the third straight game. Played: 4, Remaining: 0

John Gelotte (pictured at top): Got into the game for the fourth week in a row as the third tight end. Played 4, Remaining 0

Jalen Alexander: The defensive back got in on special teams. Also got credit for another game played in a previous week after coaches film review. Played: 4, Remaining: 0.

Also played at Virginia Tech:

Darrell Harding Jr.: Like Pancol, saw his time reduced with Bobo’s return. Was targeted once—an incompletion. Played: 3, Games remaining in redshirt: 1

Did not play

Jaylen Coleman: Sat out after two straight games. Played: 2, Remaining: 2

Jordan Waters: Seems to be alternating games played and DNPs. Played: 2, Remaining: 2

RJ Oben: Coaches report has him with just one game played, down one from the initial participation lists. Played 1, Remaining 3

Elijah Wroten: Only time has been against A&T. Played: 1, Remaining: 3.

Isaiah Kemp: Only time has been against Alabama. Played: 1, Remaining: 3

Mason Russell: Didn’t play this week, but coaches gave him a second game in the first three (participation reports had him with 1). Played: 2, Remaining: 2

DeWayne Carter: Only time has been against Alabama. Played: 1, Remaining: 3

The following true freshmen did not play and still have a four-game redshirt intact:

Jack Colyar, Tony Davis, Gavin Spurrier, Sayyid Stevens, Charlie Ham, Jack Griffin, Anthony Hinton, Ron Carr, Matt Smith, Trevor Horton, Ahmad Craig, Caleb Oppan, Porter Wilson, Christian Rorie.

Upperclassmen: The following redshirt-eligible upperclassmen reached their four-game limit: Marquis Waters, Deon Jackson, Michael Carter II, Victor Dimukeje, Derrick Tangelo, Rakavius Chambers, Drew Jordan, Noah Gray, Mataeo Durant, Tahj Rice, Dylan Singleton, Koby Quansah, Tre Hornbuckle.
