Cutcliffe: "Odd that Koby Quansah is on the Good Hands team, since they're in casts"

Senior LB wins honor for community service

Duke senior linebacker Koby Quansah was named to the Allstate Good Works Team, which is sponsored by the American Football Coaches Association. Duke coach David Cutcliffe began his bye-week comments to the media by discussing the honor.

“We really take good pride in having a winner,” he said.

“Koby, what an incredible youngster he is,” Cutcliffe said. “He is all the time doing something.”

Cutcliffe also praised the AFCA for teaming with Allstate.

“I’m a board member of the American Football Coaches Association, and I’m really proud that this is important to them,” he said.

The coach then took a good natured jab at his player, who broke his thumb in the preseason and injured his other hand during the early part of the year.

“It’s kind of odd that he’s on the Good Hands team right now, since both of his hands are wrapped in casts."

Quansah had a tough upbringing, emigrating to the U.S. as a child and living with a single mother who struggled to make ends meet while moving around the country.

“He has traveled far,” Cutcliffe said. “He was born in Ghana—tough circumstances for him, his sister and his Mama, in the U.S. For Koby to understand that giving back is the most important think—he’s quick to help any of his teammates, quick to help anybody. … He’s definitely made Duke football better. He’s made our university better. He’s made our community better.”
