David Cutcliffe on wathing Daniel Jones on Sunday: "You have never heard such ruckus"

Cutcliffe interrupted film study to watch the fourth quarter

Coach David Cutcliffe was asked about Daniel Jones’ starting debut with the Giants.

While has asked the media not to ask him about his other former quarterback on the Giants, Eli Manning, who lost his job to Jones, he was more than happy to discuss the rookie’s performance Sunday.

“I’ve never done this before,” he said, “but we practiced Sunday, and we were watching practice tape. I knew it was about the fourth quarter. I said, ‘What the heck, guys. This is ridiculous. You’re young people. I know you can stream it in here.’ So we streamed it in both staff rooms on the big screens. We saw the whole fourth quarter.”

And when the game ended, the celebration began.

“You have never heard such ruckus,” he said. “We were so jacked up. We were dancing all over the Yoh (football building).”

Even after the win, Jones was still getting advice from his old coach.

“I talked to Daniel last night,” Cutcliffe said. “I’m calmed down. He’s calmed down. I told him the highest form of sanity is to live in the present moment. People going around thinking about what’s gonna happen or thinking about the past. You’ll lose your mind. If you want to be a fairly sane person, be where your feet are. I told him, if you’re having dinner, have dinner. When you work, work. Don’t be thinking about what you’re worried about two days down the road. Don’t listen to the noise when it’s good. (Baseball Hall of Famer) Satchell Paige said, ‘If you don’t pray when the sun’s shining, don’t pray when it rains.’”
