The Duke Blue Devils scored 38 straight points in the first half to break open its homecoming game against Georgia Tech. Duke cruised to a 41-23 victory, improving to 4-2 on the year, two wins shy of bowl eligibility.

Just as importantly, Duke moved to 2-1 in the ACC, tying Virginia and North Carolina, who the Blue Devils play on the road in their next two games, for the lead in the wide-open Coastal Division.

Tech scored on its first drive on a long pass to Jerry Howard, but Duke responded, getting rushing touchdowns from Deon Jackson, WR Eli Pancol, Jackson again, and QB Quentin Harris, after Mataeo Durant’s dive for the end zone after a 38 yard run was ruled six inches short.

Duke’s defense was in Georgia Tech’s face most of the day. The Blue Devils had 10 tackles for loss and sacked quarterback James Graham four times. Three of the sacks were by Victor Dimukeje, who became the first Blue Devil to have as many sacks in a game since 2016. It was the most by a Duke player in ACC play since 2003.

Duke also blocked a punt for a score, its first since the 2012 Belk Bowl.

The Blue Devils used the second half to try to build running back depth, giving freshman Jaylen Coleman four carries and getting fellow freshman Jordan Waters on the field for a handful of snaps. Duke is looking to find another reliable back behind Jackson and Durant after losing Brittain Brown to season-ending shoulder surgery.
