Quentin Harris: No Trash Talking For Duke

Saturday’s game against UNC will be the fifth Victory Bell game for redshirt senior Quentin Harris. So he understands the importance of Duke-Carolina.

“It’s a very storied rivalry, I think just the nature of the two school across all the different sports. I wouldn’t say it’s anything distasteful. It’s not a pure hatred of each other. Obviously, we want to beat the school down the road. But treat it almost just like every other game. Obviously, there’s more at stake with the Victory Bell, this wek, and we want to continue to hold the Victory Bell. So that’s kind of our motivation and what’s driving us this week, in addition to the rivalry. I would say it’s a pretty respectful rivalry. We know a couple of those guys, just from the nature of being around and being 20 minutes apart. But definitely looking forward to playing them, and we know it’s going to be a great atmosphere.”

It’s a respectful rivalry, but that doesn’t mean there’s no trash talking. Harris tries to refrain from talking on the field, however.

“We really try to just let play do the talking,” he said. “So we try to stay out of any extracurriculars.”

In addition to bragging rights and the bell, the game against UNC will have importance in the ACC Coastal Division.

“We know we’re situated right in the middle of the thick of the race for the Coastal right now,” Harris said. “To some extent, we control our own destiny by how we play the rest of season. That motivates us as well. We know the Coastal is on the line. We know we have to beat other Coastal opponents, and UNC is one of them. They’re the next one on the schedule. So we’re really focused on hopefully getting a win this week. We definitely know what’s at stake with the Coastal and the Victory Bell.”
