Duke basketball alum posts double-double in 351-point NBA game

In this story:
On Friday night, former Duke basketball big man Mason Plumlee recorded his first double-double and drew his first start in his three games since the Charlotte Hornets traded him to the Los Angeles Clippers.

Plumlee's 10 points and 10 rebounds in 25 minutes on the floor were hardly the headline. Still, it's noteworthy because the veteran 32-year-old — averaging a career-best 12.0 points per game this season — contributed to a history-making outing.
The Clippers (33-29) lost at home to the Sacramento Kings (34-25) in double overtime, 176-175. That's not a typo. They combined for 351 points, the second-highest total in any NBA game and the record for any contest that included fewer than three overtime periods.
UNREAL.

All but six of the 19 players who saw the court scored 10 points or more. Three topped 40: the Kings' Malik Monk (45) and De'Aaron Fox (42), plus the Clippers' Kawhi Leonard (44).
As for the highest-scoring game in NBA history, that remains the Detroit Pistons' 186-184 triple-overtime win at the Denver Nuggets on Dec. 13, 1983. Interestingly, it also included a Duke basketball product in then-Nuggets reserve forward Kenny Dennard, who went scoreless in three minutes of action that night.

Remarkably, those Pistons and Nuggets from yesteryear combined for 370 points despite knocking down only two 3-pointers in the game. Compare that to the scorching 44-for-86 clip from downtown between the Clippers and Kings on Friday night.
Times have changed, indeed.
Mason Plumlee and the Los Angeles Clippers have a day off before their road game against the Denver Nuggets at 10 p.m. ET Sunday.
