Duke Basketball Alum Tre Jones Catches Brother in Triple-Double Count

Duke basketball's Jones brothers are more than assist-to-turnover hotshots.

Around this time last year, San Antonio Spurs guard Tre Jones came up short of his first career triple-double (college or pro) due to two missed free throws. Then two weeks ago, his older brother and fellow Duke basketball product, Memphis Grizzlies guard Tyus Jones, became the first of the two to accomplish the feat.

Adding to Tyus Jones' sibling bragging rights in this regard at the time, that triple-double (20 points, 10 rebounds, 10 assists) came against his kid brother in the Grizzlies' 126-120 overtime win in San Antonio.

But at least Tre Jones finally joined the club in Sunday's 142-134 overtime win by the Spurs (20-58) on the road against the playoff-bound Sacramento Kings (47-31). The 23-year-old starting floor general finished with 17 points, 10 rebounds, 11 assists, and only one turnover in his 33 minutes, posting a game-high plus/minus of +24.

"Now, it's tied," Jones notified the media about the brotherly triple-double battle, "because my brother obviously got that one on us earlier this year. But he already text me and everything; he was watching. So he was super hyped."

Tre Jones is now in his third NBA season, all with the Spurs, since going No. 41 overall at the 2020 NBA Draft following his outstanding two-year Duke basketball career. And this season is by far his most productive.

He's averaging 12.5 points, more than double his mark from last year and five times his rookie average, along with a career-high 6.4 assists, 3.5 rebounds, and 1.4 steals per game.

Both Jones brothers boast top 10 assist-to-turnover ratios in the NBA this go-round.

Tyus Jones also owns bragging rights in this department — over everyone, though — as he leads the league for the fifth straight year, with a 5.6 assist-to-turnover ratio this time. Tre Jones, who finished behind only his brother last season, ranks No. 9 this year at 4.0.
