Former two-year Duke basketball starting point guard Tre Jones has agreed to a two-year, $20 million contract with the San Antonio Spurs, ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reported on Friday afternoon.

So the 23-year-old Minnesota native, who entered the summer as a restricted free agent following the expiration of his rookie contract, will have the opportunity to play alongside the Spurs' No. 1 overall draft pick in French sensation Victor Wembanyama as San Antonio looks to improve upon last season's effort drastically.

Last season, Jones, the Spurs' 2020 second-round draft pick, was a full-time starter for a San Antonio squad that finished with a 22-60 record and dead last in the Western Conference standings.

He played in 68 games, averaging career highs across the board with his 12.9 points, 3.6 rebounds, 6.6 assists, and 1.3 steals per outing.

And his 4.1 assist-to-turnover ratio ranked No. 8 in the league. His older brother, 2015 Blue Devil national champ Tyus Jones, posted the highest mark in this department (5.4) for the fifth year straight; now, he's headed from the Memphis Grizzlies to the Washington Wizards in light of last week's trade.

As things stand on the first day of the NBA's free agency — now in full swing with reports coming out seemingly every few minutes — Tre Jones is the only Duke basketball product on contract with the Spurs for next season.
