In this story:

Cooper Flagg, No. 1 overall on the 247Sports 2024 Composite, attends the Duke basketball-friendly Montverde Academy (Fla.). Advantage Blue Devils there. He's admitted to being a Duke basketball enthusiast since he was a kid. Check.

And he'll soon be returning to Durham, this time for an official visit, his mother told 247Sports' Travis Branham on Wednesday. His two-day unofficial visit, including the following photo shoot wearing Blue Devil gear inside Cameron Indoor Stadium, was only a few weeks ago:

Note that second-year Blue Devil head coach Jon Scheyer and his powerhouse recruiting team boast all 12 predictions for the Flagg sweepstakes between the Rivals FutureCast, 247Sports Crystal Ball, and On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine.

Yes, it seems Scheyer & Co. should like its chances. However, Duke isn't the only visit on Flagg's calendar. As Branham reported, the 6-foot-9, 200-pound phenom also plans to check out Kansas and UConn. Considering they are the two most recent national champions, there's no reason to rule either out as a legit contender.

There's no word on dates for the visits, all three of the official variety, except that they'll take place "this fall." Nor has Flagg's camp specified whether he has plans to take more. And they haven't hinted at any rush to his decision, outside of the recent announcement of his reclassification from 2025 to 2024.

One would think the hope in Durham is for Cooper Flagg — a brilliant, perhaps generational, see-everything specimen on both ends of the court — to schedule his Duke basketball official visit to coincide with Countdown to Craziness on Oct. 20, just a few weeks before the early signing period for this year's crop of high school seniors.

Of course, the 16-year-old and his family will surely get the red carpet treatment again, no matter the date of his arrival.

Thus far, Scheyer and his gang have secured commitments from two heralded talents in the 2024 class: North Meck (N.C.) five-star small forward Isaiah Evans and Paul VI Catholic (Va.) four-star small forward Darren Harris.
