Duke basketball recruiting: Jon Scheyer drops in on top target again

In this story:
The Duke basketball coaches have been noticeably inactive recently in courting some of their 2024 targets. But that's far from the case in their chase of Don Bosco Prep (N.J.) combo guard Dylan Harper, the son of former five-time NBA champion Ron Harper.

Last week, Dylan Harper named five finalists: Auburn, Duke, Indiana, Kansas, and Rutgers. That suggests a decision could be just around the corner, although the 6-foot-5 crafty lefty has yet to establish a definitive timeline.
And so this week, first-year Duke basketball head coach Jon Scheyer and assistant Jai Lucas continued their heavy pursuit by showing up again to watch the five-star play.

Harper, who has skyrocketed from No. 33 to No. 4 overall on the 247Sports 2024 Composite since landing an offer from the Blue Devils in August, finished with 30 points, six rebounds, and three steals in his team's 67-55 home win over Bergen Catholic (N.J.) on Tuesday night.
Furthermore, every member of the Duke staff was on hand in late December to watch Harper on his way to earning MVP honors at the John Wall Holiday Invitational in Raleigh, N.C. Two months prior, he attended the program's Countdown to Craziness in Cameron Indoor Stadium during what remains his only official visit anywhere.
"When you hear about Duke, you hear about 'Brotherhood,'" the 16-year-old Harper recently told Rivals' Rob Cassidy. "When I went on my visit, Coach Scheyer showed me what 'The Brotherhood' truly meant. Cameron is a fantastic environment."
Currently, the 247Sports Crystal Ball and On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine favor Duke to come out on top for Dylan Harper's services.
Scheyer and his gang have landed only one 2024 commit: Paul VI Catholic (Va.) four-star small forward Darren Harris, who ranks No. 53 among the nation's high school juniors.
