Snubbed Duke basketball signee outshines Bronny James again

Caleb Foster could become an instant Duke basketball sensation.

There's a chance Jeremy Roach and Tyrese Proctor both turn pro after the season. In that case, Caleb Foster would be the frontrunner to become next season's Duke basketball starting point guard.

And recent dazzling performances — shaking off defenders, sinking threes, and setting up teammates for easy buckets — suggest the 6-foot-5, 190-pound five-star would be ready to assume those reins.

Foster, who became Duke's first of now-five 2023 prizes with his commitment in September 2021, notched a game-high 23 points on Friday night to lead his Notre Dame (Calif.) squad to its second double-digit win in the past three weeks over Sierra Canyon (Calif.) and four-star combo guard Bronny James.

James, who is the eldest son of LeBron James and snagged McDonald's All-American honors in January while Foster got snubbed, finished with only 11 points this go-round. Foster has outscored James, 43-30, as Notre Dame outscored Sierra Canyon, 158-114, across their two February matchups.

Despite sitting No. 17 overall, Caleb Foster is only the fourth highest-ranked 2023 Duke basketball signee. (Bronny James, an uncommitted recruit, ranks No. 33.)

The other future Blue Devils in the class, all five-star prospects, are Roselle Catholic (N.J.) small forward Mackenzie Mgbako (ranks No. 7), Montverde (Fla.) power forward Sean Stewart (No. 13), Centennial (Calif.) combo guard Jared McCain (No. 15), and Worcester (Mass.) power forward TJ Power (No. 20).

Mgbako, Stewart, and McCain are the McDonald's All-Americans.
