North Texas guard transfer Tylor Perry will travel to the University of Florida for an official visit starting Friday night, All Gators can confirm.

The Conference USA Player of the Year averaged 17.3 points on 43.7% from the field, 2.1 assists and 3.4 rebounds per game in 2022-23. He also won the NIT MVP after leading the Mean Green to an NIT Championship victory over UAB to close a fruitful season for the program.

Perry possesses an elite scoring prowess that the Gators sorely missed from its backcourt a season ago.

Showcasing the ability to attack an opposing defense at all three levels — with a knack for getting to the rim despite his 5-foot-11 stature while also knocking down 41.3% of his three-point attempts — Perry is a prototypically efficient guard for Todd Golden's system.

He aligns with the able scorers at the point that Golden rostered at San Francisco, as Jamaree Bouyea and Khalil Shabazz put a strain on the opposition, even amid scoring struggles.

Luring similar talents of SEC-caliber to Gainesville was a focus heading into the offseason after lapses in that area last season.

The portal activity Florida's exhibited aligns as such. Perry's resume boasts arguably the best qualifications of available talent to fill that void on the roster.

"They're just looking for guys that can score when needed, guys who can go get a bucket, whether it be in the post or maybe a catch-and-shoot three," Yale transfer and Gators forward commit EJ Jarvis shared in an exclusive interview with All Gators following his pledge.

His words provided insight into the staff's portal search for all positions.

Notably, the ability to score off the dribble will be a selling point for the guards they target.

Currently, the Gators hold just one transfer portal commitment in Jarvis. However, they’re heavily involved with several other options, with Marshall center transfer Micah Handlogten — who will visit alongside Perry this weekend — Iona guard Walter Clayton Jr., Providence guard Jared Bynum and Charleston Southern guard Claudell Harris Jr. among those in the fold.

Florida also recently retained emerging star guard Riley Kugel for a second campaign in orange and blue.

Bringing in ready-now, complementary pieces to surround him is Golden and Co.'s top priority, as a return to the NCAA Tournament is on top of the to-do list for the staff in year two.
