Florida Extends Coach Kevin O'Sullivan's Contract Through 2033

Florida rewarded head baseball coach Kevin O'Sullivan with a contract extension as he enters his 17th season in charge of the Gators.

GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- Florida and head coach Kevin O'Sullivan agreed to a four-year contract extension in January that will keep the face of Gators baseball with the program through the 2023 season, according to Nick de la Torre of On3 Sports.

O'Sullivan's previous contract was set to expire after the 2029 season. The new deal includes a raise of over $600,000 per year in total income on average, from $1,220,598 to $1,840,000, with a $1 million base salary.

“It is an honor and a privilege to serve as the head baseball coach at the University of Florida, and I am excited to continue the challenge of bringing a National Championship back to Gainesville throughout the foreseeable future,” O’Sullivan said in a statement, via On3 Sports.

“I want to thank our administration for their commitment and support of UF baseball, specifically to athletic director Scott Stricklin and deputy athletic director Chip Howard for the opportunity to continue to lead this elite program. A special thank you to Gator Nation, as fan support of our team has reached new heights at Condron Family Ballpark. The future of baseball at Florida is incredibly bright, and I am thrilled to have the opportunity to start and finish my head coaching career as a Gator.”

The Gators awarded O'Sullivan one season removed from their third appearance in the College World Series finals during his tenure, which Florida lost to LSU in three games last June. UF lifted the National Championship trophy for the first time in school history, under O'Sullivan, in 2017.

Over 16 seasons in charge of the club, O'Sullivan has tallied a 681-319 (.681) record and gone 277-172 (.617) within the Southeastern Conference. 106 Florida players have been selected in the MLB Draft after receiving his coaching.

The Gators have not missed the NCAA postseason since O'Sullivan arrived in Gainesville ahead of the 2008 season. Before that point, Florida clinched playoff berths just 22 times since the 1947 inauguration of the annual NCAA Tournament.

Florida returns to the diamond to begin its 2024 season on Friday, at home against St. Johns. The first pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. ET.
