Braden Fiske Reflects on Win Over Miami and FSU Career Ahead of Senior Day

After transferring from Western Michigan in the offseason, Fiske climbed his way to a starting role on the defensive line and has been a major playmaker for FSU.

The Florida State Seminoles have officially had back-to-back ten-win seasons for the first time since 2015 and 2016 as the team took down the Miami Hurricanes in Tallahassee last weekend for the first in-state rivalry game of the season. While many players have experienced the rivalry before, whether it be as a player or fan, there are those who experienced the on-field tension for the first time last weekend, including transfer Braden Fiske.

"Just to be a part of something like that, the special rivalry that it is, and just the opportunity is awesome. I think the back and forth just made it that much more special, and that's the way those games are gonna go," Fiske said. "I think coach Norvell brought it up; something like 18 or so of those games have been one-score games, which is unbelievable, and we had to find a way to win, which we did."

One of the major reasons Fiske and the FSU defensive line have been able to perform so well, especially late in the game, is the rotation of linemen the Seminoles have to offer. Fiske noted that he averaged 60-80 snaps per game at his former school. Through 10 games at FSU, Fiske has averaged 36 snaps per game, which is nearly half of what he was playing before.

"I think that's a huge part of what happened in that game. I thought we were able to wear them down, especially in the fourth quarter there when it came to some of those pass-rush situations," Fiske said. "Just being able to rotate and get fresh bodies in there, and the different combinations we were able to throw at them. We all have different play styles up front, whether it's me, Josh, Fabo, Malcolm, or whoever you want to throw in there, but we have different styles of play, and the more you can throw at an offensive line the better and I thought we were able to do a good job of that."

As the Seminoles are preparing for their last game in Doak Campbell Stadium this Saturday, emotions are high as the team is gearing up to celebrate the seniors as a part of Senior Day. Fiske reflected on his short career at FSU and what the opportunity has meant to him to be able to play for the program.

"I'm just thankful. I never knew I would be in this position to begin with. Just go back a year ago; I had no idea that this opportunity would present itself," Fiske said. "So yeah, I'm just very thankful that me and my family got to experience this, and I got to experience this with the guys that have been here for a long time, and just to go out there and do it one more time is a really really special opportunity and it's even better when you're undefeated."

The Seminoles take the field Saturday, November 18th, against the North Alabama Lions with kickoff scheduled for 6:30 PM. In addition to being senior day, the Seminoles will honor the 2013 National Championship team for the tenth anniversary season. The game will be broadcast on The CW.
