Florida State's fortunes have changed since the new year as the program has secured several key players out of the NCAA Transfer Portal. The Seminoles have addressed parts of their rosters but there are still some positions that need to be beefed up.

On Monday, former Alabama wide receiver Malik Benson announced that he was transferring to Florida State to continue his college career. He's coming off a visit to Tallahassee that lasted the majority of the day as he and his family toured the campus and met with head coach Mike Norvell and wide receivers coach Ron Dugans.

Benson spent one season with Alabama after beginning his career in JUCO. He appeared in 14 games, with six starts, and caught 13 passes for 162 yards and a touchdown in 2023. The speedy wide receiver also contributed on special teams throughout the year.

The Kansas native spent two seasons at Hutchinson Community College where he developed into a record-breaking star. He caught 43 passes for 1,229 yards, and 11 touchdowns during his first year with the program, earning First-Team NJCAA DI All-American honors. Benson came back with 54 catches for 923 yards and 10 touchdowns as a sophomore to break the school record for receiving yards in a career (2,152).

Benson is an extremely explosive wide receiver who will probably play on the outside at Florida State. He's got a lot of potential with his blend of athleticism and playmaking ability. Benson's speed is evidenced by his success on the track as he ran a 10.44-second 100-meter dash back in high school.

The 6-foot-1, 195-pound wide receiver was regarded as the No. 1 overall JUCO prospect, the No. 1 JUCO WR, and the No. 1 JUCO recruit in the state of Kansas in the 2023 class according to 247Sports.

Florida State adds Benson to a room that includes redshirt senior Kentron Poitier, redshirt senior Darion Williamson, redshirt senior Ja'Khi Douglas, sophomore Hykeem Williams, sophomore Vandrevius Jacobs, and sophomore Destyn Hill, among others.

Benson is the eighth transfer to join the Seminoles since December. The program has also added former Georgia defensive end Marvin Jones Jr, former Oregon State/Clemson quarterback DJ Uiagalelei, former LSU wide receiver Jalen Brown, former Alabama cornerback Earl Little Jr., former Colorado State defensive tackle Grady Kelly, former Indiana running back Jaylin Lucas, and former Miami defensive back Davonte Brown over the last few weeks.
