One of the most prolific careers by a quarterback in Florida State program history has come to a close, at least on the field.

On Monday, head coach Mike Norvell opened up his final press conference of the 2023 regular season by announcing that Seminole star Jordan Travis will miss the remainder of the year due to a lower-body injury. Travis was hospitalized after going down in the opening quarter of the win over North Alabama on Senior Day.

After being stopped by a controversial hip-drop tackle, it was immediately obvious that Travis had suffered a potentially major injury. Trainers from both teams quickly ran to his aid and an air cast was applied to his left leg before he was taken directly to an ambulance.

"Unfortunately, Jordan went down there in the first quarter and he had a season-ending injury," Norvell said. "It was devastating - for him, for who he is, for what he's meant to this program. The impact that he's made on and off the field, to know that his last play at Florida State has happened."

It's just hard. With all of the emotions you felt, you felt the support, the care, the concern for him," Norvell continued, "I mean his composure on the field, in pain, all things, he kept telling me, 'coach, I'm good. I'm good. Tell my mom I'm ok and I'm good' as he got up I think both teams came out there just to wish him off and wish him well in his recovery. He's had a great mindset throughout this with an incredible difficult circumstance."

Travis was in the middle of a standout final season in Tallahassee. He completed 207/324 passes for 2,756 yards with 20 touchdowns to two interceptions while rushing 73 times for 167 yards and seven more scores on the ground. Earlier in the year, Travis passed the legendary Chris Weinke in the record books to take over as Florida State's all-time leader in total touchdowns (98) and total yards of offense (10,665 yards).

The Florida native previously set FSU records for quarterback rushing yards (1,950 yards) and quarterback rushing touchdowns (31). He's the only player in program history to be ranked in the top 10 on the Seminoles' career passing touchdowns and rushing touchdowns lists. Travis is ranked fourth in school history in rushing touchdowns behind Dalvin Cook, Greg Allen, and Warrick Dunn.

There's no doubt that Travis will go down as an all-time great at Florida State. He finishes his time in garnet and gold with 28 victories as the starting quarterback, tied for No. 2 on the all-time list with Chris Rix. Travis guided the Seminoles to back-to-back double-digit win campaigns for the first time since 2015-16. Even more importantly, he helped bring the program back to prominence after a couple of tumultuous seasons.

It was also his impact off the field that became so important. Travis learned how to lead and became a key figure in the locker room as Florida State turned a rotten culture into something worth fighting for. There's a reason why his teammates have rallied around him in such a massive way as he goes through this trying time.

"I truly cannot thank everyone enough for the many thoughts, prayers, and messages that have been sent my way. I have been overwhelmed by the support from my teammates, coaches, the Florida State community and those all around the world," Travis said in a statement on Monday. "Although the injury I sustained on November 18, 2023, marks the end of my Seminole playing career, the great memories created here at FSU will never fade. Being the quarterback here at Florida State University has been a dream come true. I am humbled, honored, and forever grateful. The journey this team set out on is not over yet as all of our goals still lie just ahead. I am excited to be by my brothers' sides every day as we continue our attack. We're all we got, we're all we need. Job's not finished. Go 'Noles!" #Finish

Travis is truly a special person on and off the field. With all of the adversity that he's gone through, it's only a matter of time until he overcomes another obstacle in his path.

During his college career, Travis appeared in 49 games, with 38 starts, and completed 637/1,027 passes for 8,715 yards with 66 touchdowns to 20 interceptions. He also rushed 417 times for 1,950 yards with 31 more scores while adding three catches for 11 yards and a touchdown.

While he'll no longer be on the field, everyone across Seminole Nation knows that Travis will be on the sideline supporting Tate Rodemaker and his teammates in their quest to finish what they started.
