Conrad Hussey Reflects on His Development, Excited For First Taste Of FSU-Miami Rivalry

The true freshman had his first career interception last weekend and is hoping for more against Miami.

The fourth-ranked Florida State Seminoles survived their last conference road trip last weekend with a win over the Pitt Panthers. Despite a rocky first half with just a three-point lead after two quarters, the 'Noles were able to turn things around with two touchdowns in the second half sealing a 24-7 win for FSU.

While the offense played a major part in the victory, it was the defensive performance the Seminoles had that really turned things around for FSU. With 54 total tackles, three sacks, and one turnover, the Seminoles were able to keep the Pitt offense to just one score throughout the game.

While the win was a team effort, true freshman safety Conrad Hussey stole the show with his first career interception early in the fourth quarter.

"It felt unreal to be honest," Hussey said. "Especially because I was looking for flags, then I was like 'oh this is happening for real' so it felt good having my first interception in a game and I was happy to celebrate that with my brothers as well so it was a pretty good feeling."

Hussey has seen the field in all nine of the gamesFSU has played so far, and while his collegiate career has gotten off to a promising start, things haven't necessarily gone easy for the freshman, as he is still adjusting to the grind that comes with being a Florida State Seminole.

"Really just keeping your head forward and just going by the day-to-day grind for real, because there's going to be days where you feel like giving up but you've got to keep going, keep studying film, keep working hard, and keep your drills at 100% because your time will come and when it comes you've got to take advantage of the opportunity," Hussey said.

Having played high school football at St. Thomas Aquinas and won a state championship with the team, Hussey is no stranger to football in South Florida. Many fans view the game as a bitter rivalry but Hussey sees it as a chance to play old friends at a new level.

"It's a pretty big game in my opinion because there's a lot of old friends that we've got on that team so we're just trying to go day by day and see how we're going to put forward into this game, so it's going to be a big game and there's going to be a lot of friendly competition," Hussey said..

The Seminoles will face the Miami Hurricanes for the first in-state rivalry game of the season in Doak Campbell Stadium. The game will be broadcast on ABC and kickoff is scheduled for 3:30.
